And the winner is… Jesse Billington
If you check out Jesse Billington’s website you’ll read that he is a journalist and photographer working mostly in the world of cars. He started in zoology, went to DriveTribe but now he works for Classic Car Weekly. A weird CV, and now he can add the Newspress Rising Star in Journalism Award (sponsored by Suzuki) to that.
He’s not your conventional journalist and perhaps that’s why his work caught the eye of the judges. His website reads: ‘Beyond his work, Jesse’s life revolves around cars and the countryside. Working alongside his dad and grandad to maintain their constantly ailing fleet of classic cars and motorcycles, including a 1939 Riley 12/4 Drophead-Coupe that currently has no cylinder heads, clutch, floorboards, bonnet and probably numerous other things that have been overlooked.’
That tells you there is a passion for the subject matter and Jesse’s submissions reflected that with one judge commenting: “He has assembled an impressive and varied portfolio in a short space of time, and his enthusiasm shines through thanks to his engaging writing.”
